network marketing trainingWhether you’re new or old to the industry, a question you will have heard asked on more than one occasion will have been “What is the best MLM or network marketing training?”

There is a lot of debate on this topic and a fair few opinions as you’d expect on the best training systems for network marketing or the best network marketing tools to help you build your business and this article is by no means the answer to everything. What it will do though is give you a clear picture of the options available to you as a home based business owner who is looking to improve his or her knowledge, skills and experience. After all, network marketing is a long term route to financial freedom and you should expect and be prepared to learn how to build your network marketing business today, tomorrow and five years from now.

When starting out in the world of network marketing, the road to a livable income may seem a long way away.

Your sponsor (if you are lucky) may already be a top earner with your company but that can be a barrier as well as a boost to some. For sure, an experienced networker will be able to point you in the right direction and will be able to guide you along the path but they may also be limited in terms of the time they have available to work one on one with you in the early days.

Left alone to find your feet you begin to settle in to your catalogs, product descriptions and training manuals and could soon start to feel as though you are drowning in information overload with nobody to turn to.

That said, getting started and building your network marketing business is about one thing; ownership. Don’t expect anyone else to do the initial work for you when it comes to learning about your company, products and compensation plan. Your sponsor may advise and be there to shed some light on key areas to look out for, but this business belongs to you and only you can own its’ success or its’ failure.

To lessen the load for you, your network marketing company should offer training and support in the form of DVDs, webcasts, manuals and local group networking sessions for distributors. If they do not offer these services, or if they don’t offer quite enough of these services, you may find yourself hitting the internet to search for other MLM training programs or added support. Choose wisely if you head in this direction ;-)

So how can you choose a good MLM/network marketing training program?

  • Talk to people in the industry to see who and what they recommend
  • Talk to your sponsor to see if they have any recommended tools or training
  • Search the internet to see what’s out there and who is being talked about as a great network marketing mentor or trainer
  • Take a look at yourself and identify your strengths and weaknesses. Work on both and your business will take off
mlm trainingOnce you’ve done the first part move onto the training itself and see what’s on offer; First, count out any program that tells you you don’t have to sell. That is false. The only way to be successful in network marketing is to learn to sell. Not only your products, but also sell the program to new recruits. You may not be a hard-sales kind of person. There are programs that cater to a more passive salesperson, helping you play on your strengths and help you become comfortable asking for the sale. Sales doesn’t have to be scary, and you don’t always have to use hard tactics to close a deal. Know that you are providing people with products that will either make their life better, make them happier, or both. And know that by building your downline, and asking others to join your team is helping those people achieve success and reach their own financial goals. Remember though, if you don’t ask you don’t get ;-)

Look for training that incorporates the internet and new media alongside so-called “traditional” network marketing or “offline” MLM skills. Network marketing training programs that tell you new media won’t help your business are somewhat outdated but by the same measure, trainers and programmes that promise you instant success with a hands off, passive or “attraction marketing” model alone are equally questionable.

Good trainers are current on the latest trends in using the internet and social networking to increase sales and build your downline but also have a proven, tried and tested offline system in place to help you tap into multiple marketing methods that best suit you and your team.

Don’t let technology scare you. Good training programs will walk you through these new media methods step by step and allow you to select and master the methods that fit within your skill set, budget and commitment level (not that this should be anything but 100%).

Network Marketing tranersFinally, always be learning. Don’t take what you learned the first month of your business and never bother to seek more training in the future. A good rule of thumb is to spend no less than 5% of your profits on networking marketing training. Buy books, listen to CDs in the car and attend live training events when you can and view each and all of these activities as “money in the bank” while you build your knowledge base right alongside your network marketing business. You should always be learning about the latest trends in the industry, the latest technology, and the best practices of successful network marketers.  Challenge yourself daily and look for ways to increase your skill set wherever you can but don’t mistake your ongoing self development with your bottom line. Building a network marketing business is about three things;

  1. Building your contact list of potential customers and/or distributors
  2. Setting appointments to show people your product/service or business opportunity
  3. Presenting your product/service or business opportunity to future customers and business partners
Keep your eye on your business while building your knowledge and understanding of the network marketing skills and training you need to become the next MLM rockstar.

There are thousands of MLM and network marketing companies operating worldwide. There are hundreds of thousands of people who offer training programs to MLM entrepreneurs. Know what you want from a training program, be willing to execute their suggestions, and always be looking for more material. In the world of MLM, training should always be a business priority.
